Monkeying around!

My friend was having a Curious George themed birthday party for her little boy. So of course we had to have a big yellow hat! For the hat, I just layered different sizes of round cakes and then carved it to the shape that I wanted. I covered it in yellow fondant and placed it on top of a yellow fondant circle.

These monkey cupcakes were super simple and a BIG hit with the kids! I'm pretty sure they were more excited about these than they were about the cake! They are simply frosted in chocolate buttercream then I cut mini Nilla wafers for the ears and cut a little piece off a regular Nilla wafer for the mouth. The eyes are M&M's with a dot of black frosting. So cute, so easy, so fast! Happy Birthday Jaden!

BZZZZZ!

What a cute cake for a sweet lady who loves collecting beehives! It was constructed simply by layering different sizes of round cakes (8"7"6"5"). The brown painted lines are food coloring. The flowers, ropes, and door are all fondant. The bees are just craft bees on wires. And the vines and leaves are buttercream. I placed it on a 10" square to give it more color and height.

This picture turned out really cute I thought. It looks like the bee really is buzzing around the cake! The cake flavor is Pineapple with a mild Pineapple buttercream.

SPLASH!

How cute is this?! I love the tile work on it. It's just a square cake (10"), covered in white fondant with blue and white tiles over the top of it. The step handles are fondant covered wire. The Life-saver and Beach ball are fondant/gumpaste. The water is Piping gel tinted blue.

Tinkerbell Fairy Princess

Okay so I have to say first, the teapot is a toy! I didn't make it...I wish I did, but I didn't. This cake was actually simpler than it looks. It has a fondant/gumpaste bow on the front. It's a 10 inch round cake topped with a bowl cake(cooked in a pyrex bowl). Have I said how much I love the Grass Tip! It makes such great borders and adds so much detail to a cake. Happy Birthday Alyssa!

Red Ribbon and Polka Dots

This cake has tiny white polka dot clusters all over it. The ribbon is Satin. I love these flowers! This picture makes it look like the top two tiers are about the same size but they aren't. This was a Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake with Vanilla buttercream and white fondant with royal icing dots. It's a 14"-9"-6". This is my new cake stand!!! YAY!

Hole In One!

This was my first attempt at fondant sculpting. I was really scared, but I think it turned out fine. This is three 10" round cakes stacked and carved to make a hill. The sand is just brown sugar and the water is colored piping gel. The clubs are made from wire and then gumpaste on the ends to make the head of the clubs. I painted them with silver luster dust to give it a metallic look. This was really fun to make as they always are when it's for a friend!

Simple Elegance

I was so excited to do this cake. I LOVE it! Green and weddings might not always go together, but this one was perfect. The cake went so well with the outdoor reception. The cake was HUGE too! The green layers are Chocolate cake with Vanilla Buttercream and the white layers are Coconut cake with Lime buttercream. YUM! 16"14"10"6"

Barbie

This was my first ever attempt at a doll cake and I don't think it was too shabby. Since I don't have any little girls of my own, I had to wait until someone else asked for one of these cakes (thanks Stacie!). It's a cake baked in a oven safe bowl with another 6 inch round underneath to give it more height. It is frosted then covered in fondant with piped buttercream designs on the dress and the bodice also piped buttercream to match. So cute! So fun to see the excitement on a little girls face over a cake!

Please remain seated until the Captain turns off the fasten seatbelts light..

I loved getting to do this cake for a friend. He got his pilot's liscense so his sweet wife wanted to surprise him with an Airplane cake. I used an Egg Shaped pan and cut it in half and used Rice Krispie Treats (yum) to "stretch" the body of the plane to a more proportional length. It's chocolate with Chocolate buttercream covered in fondant. The wings are cardboard covered with fondant.

Jack's #2!!

My baby boy is 2! I can't believe it. He is obsessed with balls-every sport, every kind! One of the first ones he named was "Golf Ball" so I decided to use golf and Soccer-his favorite to play with- to make him a cake for his 2nd birthday!

I love the detail of the grass surrounding each tier and underneath the ball.

The bottom tier is Triple Chocolate Fudge cake with Peanut Butter Frosting! SO DELICIOUS! It's a new favorite combo. The second tier is Lemon Cake with Vanilla Buttercream. And the top-Ball-is Yellow cake with Vanilla Buttercream. A little bit for everyone! 10"-6"-Ball

ALOHA!!

This cake was for an awesome Luau! It was a coconut cake with vanilla buttercream. It is an 8 inch and 4.5 inch tiered cake covered in fondant. The flowers on the sides are piped buttercream and then hand "painted" to give them texture and blended colors. The topper is a hand made Gum Paste/Fondant Fantasy Flower.

Home Sweat Home!

Hey, this was for a party that the theme was "Trailer Trash". I had way too much fun with the details on this. And there was so much more that I wanted to do. Every trailer has to have a "fRee kiTTeNs" hand-written sign and a mailbox "planted" in tires, right?:) Oh, and you can't forget the misspelled "home 'sweat' home" sign posted on the front of the house.
I decided to dress it up a bit with some broken lattice made out of chocolate to hide the truck trailer that the house is sitting on. The stairs are also chocolate that I melted, cooled and cut into the sizes I needed.
The concrete blocks, mailbox, tires, and kittens sign are all hand made with fondant and/or gum paste.
The cake itself is 6 6inch square cakes with a strip of rice crispy treats about in the middle of the trailer to make it a bit longer. It was Chocolate cake, vanilla buttercream. I then covered it in fondant and used fondant and buttercream for the details. Theme cakes are so much more time consuming but so much fun to do. I can't tell you how many times I laughed out loud while coming up with this one.

Joe's Pizza Cake!

I wanted to take something to Joe's work since he had to work ALL day on his actual birthday, so I decided on a pizza cake and pizza. This was very simple to make and it turned out really cool. Then I just went to our favorite pizza joint for a clean box to put it in. It's a yellow cake with red buttercream. I shaved white and yellow candy melts on top for a "Cheese" effect. The pepperoni is cherry fruit leather. The peppers and olives are also candy melts that I did ahead of time.Posted by Picasa
